Michael Burrage is a graduate of Antlers High School, and a 1974 Juris Doctorate honors graduate of the University of Oklahoma.  He was a member of the Order of the Coif and also an Editor for the Oklahoma Law Review.  Michael was the recipient of the 1977 Oklahoma Bar Association Outstanding Young Lawyer in Oklahoma and the 1991 Oklahoma Bar Association Neil E. Bogan Professionalism Award.  Michael served as a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association Board of Governors from 1984 to 1986 and as President of the Oklahoma Bar Association in 1990.  He is currently a Trustee for the Oklahoma Bar Association and a member of the Oklahoma Supreme Court Committee for Civil Jury Instructions.  He has also been honored to lecture at various Continuing Legal Education seminars.  He was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers in 1993, and is a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association, American Bar Association, and Fellow American Bar Foundation. From 1974 to 1994, Michael was a partner in the law firm of Stamper and Burrage. In 1994, he was appointed as United States District Judge for Eastern, Northern, and Western Districts of Oklahoma.  He became the Chief United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Oklahoma in 1996.  By designation as Chief, he sat as Judge on approximately forty cases for the United States Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit. In 2001, he returned to private practice. He is presently a senior partner at the Burrage Law Firm in Durant, OK, and the Whitten Burrage Law Firm in Oklahoma City.  He and his wife, Aletha, have two children: Sean and David. Sean and his wife, Carol are both attorneys.  Sean is a Partner with the Taylor, Burrage, Foster, Mallett, Downs and Ramsey Law Firm in Claremore, OK and is an Oklahoma State Senator, representing District #2.  Sean's wife, Carol, served on the faculty of Rogers State University prior to becoming a stay-at-home mom. Michael's younger son, David and wife, Heather are also both attorneys.  David and Heather practice at Burrage Law Firm in Durant, OK.  Michael and Aletha have three grandsons: Carter, Truman, and Jack, and granddaughter, Blair.
