Steve graduated from Antlers High School in 1970 and attended the University of Oklahoma, graduating in 1975 with a BBA degree in Accounting. Steve is currently a member of the Oklahoma Tax Commission where he began his service in 2015 after being appointed by Governor Mary Fallin. He received his Certified Public accounting certificate in 1977 and was a partner with Burgess & Burrage, CPA's. Steve entered into the banking industry in 1982 as Chairman of the Board, President and CEO of First National Bank in Antlers. In July of 2008, Steve was appointed by Governor Brad Henry as the Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector where he served until 2011. His service to banking has been extensive. Steve served as the Chairman of the Oklahoma Bankers Association in 1995-96. He has also chaired the OBA Government Relations Council, served on the OBA Board of Directors, was a past member of the Senior Management Committee, served as director of the OBA Services Company and has been an instructor at the OBA Operations School. In addition, he has served on the American Bankers Association National Accounting Committee, served on the Government Relations Council and has served as the ABA's State Membership Chairman for Oklahoma. Steve has been member of the Oklahoma Federal Reserve Board, the Oklahoma State Employees and Education Insurance Board, the board of The Independent Bankers Bank and Bancinsure, Inc. Steve sits on the Bizzell Memorial Library Board of Directors for the University of Oklahoma. Steve also sits on the Southeastern Oklahoma State University Foundation Board. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants. Steve has been active in civic affairs in Antlers as the chairman of the Pushmataha Hospital, serving on the city council and school board. He also is past president of both the Pushmataha County Chamber of Commerce and the Antlers Lions Club and is a member of the Choctaw Nation.
