Martin enlisted in the military in August of 1983, he rose through the ranks, serving in various leadership positions to include two Company Commands and Staff positions until he ultimately commanded the 1-180 Infantry as a Lieutenant Colonel. He served as Executive Officer/Chief of Staff, 1st Battalion 279th Infantry, and Task Force Phoenix (II) Kabul, Afghanistan from September 2003 until August 2004. Martin is the recipient of the Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman's Badge and Meritorious Service Medal, among other rewards.
Martin's father, Fred Tucker, chartered Little Dixie Community Action Agency in 1968 and served as its Executive Director until his passing in 1993. Mother, Martha (Ryan) Tucker, taught second grade at Brantley Elementary in Antlers, OK for 28 years. Sister, Freda House serves as County Director for Pushmataha and Choctaw Counties for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. His brother, Jon Tucker and sister, Kathy Smith teach at Antlers Public Schools. Martin and his wife Patty have been married since 1983. She operates a beauty shop in Antlers. Martin and Patty have two daughters: Chelsea and Brittney, and four grandchildren; Camryn, Ashtyn, Tucker and Tanner.
